GREENER Training School in Genoa

31 March 2025

From 26 to 28 March 2025, the GREENER Training School was held in the unique setting of the Genoa Aquarium. The event brought together early-career researchers, project partners and invited experts for three days of training, scientific exchange and networking around the central themes of the GREENER project: nanotechnology, photonics and sustainable innovation.

The programme combined high-level lectures, interactive sessions and hands-on activities. Keynotes explored the use of quantum dots for light emission and sensing applications, the development of photoluminescent nanomaterials, and the integration of artificial intelligence in environmental monitoring and research. In particular, lectures highlighted how AI can support the interpretation of complex data in areas such as spectroscopy and water quality monitoring, while also addressing the importance of critical thinking and ethical use of these technologies.

Participants had the opportunity to engage directly through a dedicated poster session and a series of short presentations showcasing their research. These moments fostered discussion, peer learning and cross-disciplinary connections.

The school also included several informal and networking moments, from an ice-breaker activity on the first day to a hands-on pesto-making class, offering a taste of local culture and a chance to strengthen collaboration in a relaxed environment.

The final day concluded with a graduation moment and closing remarks by Isella Vicini from Warrant Hub, Dissemination Manager of the GREENER project, who thanked all participants for their active involvement and contribution to the success of the event.
